   The Senior Director of Engineering manages a team of software engineers responsible for articulating the technical vision, designing and implementing the commercial software solutions at Globalscape.  Applying a strong technical and product lifecycle understanding, the Senior Director of Engineering leads the software engineering team, and partners with Product Management, Support, and Quality Assurance to create and maintain on-premises, cloud, and mobile software that provides secure movement and integration of data.  This will involve using strong software engineering discipline and excellent team and people management to build quality, modular, scalable and high performing solutions that meet the needs of our customers and partners.

   Reporting directly to the VP of Engineering and Test, this job requires a technical leader who is comfortable leading teams working on a large multi-component product spanning multiple technologies and deployment modalities. A strong candidate will have experience managing remote teams and integrating them into a single team.

   The ideal candidate will be a leader, mentor, and forward-thinking problem solver who is ready to own the role, the team, the culture, and engineering quality going forward.

Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.


Essential Functions: 

  • Provide technical thought leadership to teams, optimize technical decisions to maximize delivery velocity and support business teams in all aspects of estimation and prioritization.
  • Create an engaged, collaborative culture with high standards of operational excellence and continuous improvement. Be a mentor to all software developers to help them grow as effectively contributing members of the Globalscape family.
  • Provide leadership, maintain visibility and accessibility, build relationships and promote communication with team by conducting regular team meetings and one-on-one sessions, and encouraging an open exchange of ideas and information.
  • Partner with Product Management and Customer Support to define and deliver the features/functions/fixes in a quality, timely product release.
  • Translate plans into time-boxed tasking to develop and deliver quality products.
  • Ensure qualified and/or experience personnel are recruited and trained.
  • Work with Product Management and Marketing to produce roadmap, whitepapers and competitive analysis.
  • Identify and track metrics that can be used to ensure quality objectives are met and/or recommend process improvement.
  • Assign or reallocate duties to personnel to meet various workload pressures and variations where necessary.
  • Understand product roadmaps for key technology vendors and ensure that we are driving and aligning where appropriate.
  • Communicate frequently with equivalent level managers or senior outside contacts concerning projects, operational decisions, or commitments.
  • Remain informed of current technological progress and use this knowledge to ensure products remain marketable and competitive.
  • Determine priorities and monitor and control the activities and performance of staff to achieve those objectives.


  • Requires a bachelor's degree in a related area (or equivalent work experience) and at least 7 years of experience in software development.
  • At least 4 years of experience building and leading cohesive, engaged teams and the associated culture.
  • Experience with Windows based technology stacks (esp. C++, C#)
  • Experience with Web based technology stacks (esp. HTML5, Angular, REST)
  • Strong technical background with good business sense in networking, security, and software development.
  • Strong managerial capability with proven track record of delivering multiple, high quality software products on schedule.
  • A driven personality, "can do" attitude, and a results-oriented management style.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with Product Management teams in defining product requirements and specifications.
  • Proven ability managing multi-site development centers and off-shore centers.
  • Innovative, creative, strategic thinking and big picture orientation.
  • Know how to develop his/her people.
